A Note from the President

Hello Chapter Members,

What a year!  2020 has been quite a year and one that will

live on in our memories forever.  When I started this presidency in the summer of 2019 I was planning and expecting great things.  None of them being a global pandemic that has and will likely linger the 2020 calendar year!

The MOC had great plans for this spring including a celebration for nurses’ week that would include a birthday party for Florence Nightingale as it marked 200 years since her birth in 1820.  We had some exciting educational opportunities and a particular that was close to my heart scheduled for June.  These celebrations aren’t lost or forgotten but on hold.  We are looking at you 2021!

I have witnessed the nursing profession all over the world work so hard and fight for the lives of our patient’s day in and out.  Nurses have had and are enduring some trying times during 2020 and I just want to take a minute and say Thank You.

Finally, I want to thank you for allowing me to be the President of the greatest AACN chapter in the United States.  The year didn’t go as planned but I witnessed our profession look as strong and confident as ever.  Thank you to my board members for being supportive and creative in our efforts this year.  I couldn’t have done any of this without you.  To all our members keep in mind you are a NURSE and you are UNSTOPPABLE.

Shane,
Thank you for your dedication and commitment. We couldn't have asked for a better president in spite of the challenges we faced in 2020. Indeed, we remain unstoppable and will seize the moments and continue to blaze our trails as nurses.

Thank you so much for the Outstanding Service award, which was presented to me by Marie Desir in May! I am so sorry that I was not able to attend the March meeting to receive the award in person! AACN and the Metro Orlando chapter have provided a strong foundation for my career in critical care, and I owe much of my success to AACN and our local chapter. With sincere appreciation, Debra
